  2. Scribble Dictionary Speedup

  4. If you have every tried using Scribble's built-in dictionary on a large
  5. document, you probably found that it takes to long and grinds your disk
  6. drive.  As a solution I moved the dictionary to RamDisk.  Now you can take
  7. a large document and proof it about 10K per minute with no disk access
  8. until the end of the document.  This is to update the user dictionary on
  9. the disk if any new words are being added.  Since the dictionary resides in
  10. Ram your document files are limited to about 70K on a 512K machine(not a
  11. small file at all).

  13. To use my speedup, transfer these files to your Scribble workdisk.  Boot up
  14. your Scribble disk as usual, but before you enter Scribble, double-click on
  15. the Dict2Ram icon.  Now enter Scribble and try out the dictionary on any
  16. document.  Exit Scribble once your are finished with the session.  Now you
  17. added new words to the user dictionary and wish to incorporate them into
  18. the main dictionary double-click the Dict2Disk icon.  If you only wish to
  19. restore the dictionary to it's normal and slow disk based mode,
  20. double-click the FreeRam icon.

  22. This upgrade uses Pete Goodeve's Xicon utility to run a batch file when you
  23. select the icons.  Many thanks to Pete for this handy program.  Dictionary
  24. speedup is entirely public domain so feel free to pass it along to your
  25. friends.
